Lo!  You have reached the Levelord's home page.  This page is under construction. It is, in fact, a living document.  Growing and breathing and pulsating with the very life that is our gaming community.  Pulsing and throbbing and undulating to every poke and prod, every whip and whim that may... ...oh, sorry!

Wow! This new texture technology is awesome!

I'm just now learning normal and specular mapping for textures. Similar to learning the Cyrillic alphabet, I wanted to find a subject that would attract my attention. I also wanted to find something with which I could test the boundaries of the new tech, something with alot of depth and curves and, ...I found one ;)

Regular, old fashion 2D texture

For those still in the dark, here's a brief on normal and specular mapping. Textures are two dimensional and flat. Now, with per-pixel capabilities, we can assign a normal angle (the angle that is perpendicular to a surface at a specific point) to each pixel. This means that as a light traverses the texture, the brightness of each individual pixel is determined by the normal angle's relationship to the light. This gives the illusion of a third dimension. Thus, as a light is passed over, the boob and the nipple appear to be round.

Way fucking cool!

Specular mapping is similar, except that it determines how much each pixel reflects the light. So in the weird lotus flower boob, the seeds can be made to reflect light more than the surrounding skin.

The lotus flower boob was the supreme challenge. It had the fully round boob, of course, and then the individual seeds and their lipped sockets.

I feel that I have mastered normal and specular mapping now ;)

Got a chance to meet the minds (cough) behind Penny Arcade this Sunday.  You'd never guess from their internet persona, but they are truly brilliant.  I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!

Notice the two copies of SiN on the desk?  ...unpatched SiN?  We signed a special copy for each of them.  In return, they both signed a copy of their very first cartoon back in 1998...

The Sin of Long Load Times

...seriously, Masters Gabriel and Tycho, ...you guys could do stand-up with the best of them, ...thanks for the visit!

I'm going to KRI next February in Moscow.  I can't wait, ...the vodka in my blood is almost boiling with anticipation.

I'm trying to learn as much as possible before I go.  Reading about Russian history and culture.  Buying Russian DVDs and watching them multiple times.  Shopping for Russian foods, ...thank goodness I love vinegar ;)

I'm learning the Cyrillic alphabet.  Very cool, but not easy as many of the letters look exactly the same as Latin letters, but they sound like completely other letters, or have a completely knew sound.  For instance, the Latin letter P sounds like R in Cyrillic, Latin H sounds like N, ...most of the letters do this.

How ever confusing the alphabet is, the Russian language is so beautiful!  As with German, I truly melt inside when I hear a women speak it.  Anyways...

..I started learning Cyrillic one letter at a time, starting from the beginning.  Very boring, very dull, and I wasn't making progress.  Then, by way of reading interviews with me in two recent Russian magazines, in which they spelled my name and Levelord in Cyrillic, ...I found the secret.

Remember in school when you were learning your native alphabet?  What was the first few words you learned how to write, ...your name!  Being the ego beasts we are, it was the best way to capture your attention and interest.  Same here, ...I started writing my name and Levelord, and within a day I had those letters committed.

These first letters sort of set now-familiar markers along that previously boring path of new letters.  I grabbed a few more words, like mother, friend, ...and, of course, vodka.  Although still very clumsy, I have the entire alphabet memorized now.  It was a blast!

Okay, now onto vocabulary, with grammar to follow.  The next teaching aid?  ...found one!  ... ;)
